Mud room Cubbies

Over the break, we were able to tackle one of the bigger projects on my To Do list, although it ended up not being AS big as I thought.

I shared the MUD ROOM HERE, so check it out if you are interested in more of the room.

IMG_1180

But this is how it started out.  Our winter duds were laid all over when we came in, and I’d hung up a very redneck coat rack to work for the time being.  My mom and dad took the week off and basically did this whole thing for us.

RC helped Grandma put the wainscoting on the wall.

IMG_1185

I love the look of it on the wall.

So then, based on my initial idea, Dad got busy building these shelves and racks for coats.  We kept this left hand side lower so Greg can reach it and hook his coats up too.

I’ve got one coat of clear stain on it, waiting to get another.  However, we jumped right in and started hanging up our stuff.

This is the final design, with the bench for sitting and eventually, baskets for all of our goods.

An Art Table

I thought I had pre-posted this for Monday, but I forgot. Sorry!

I haven’t posted it yet, but I have an entire room in our home dedicated to being creative. I have always loved being creative. My family is full of creative people… my mom has always been sewing something, my dad is always building something, my Grandma was a great seamstress and she loved to paint. My aunts are knitters and quilters. So I think it’s hereditary. Or at least I want it to be.

I do let the kids in the craft room and let them make a mess with me in there. We have been kitting kits from Kiwi Crate and they often like to make cards to send to their cousins.

However, I’ve been inspired but Meg Duerksen and I’ve seen peeks of her kids at their art table. I wanted there to be a place dedicated to where the kids could get crafty. I’ve thought about placing it in my room, but I wanted it to be more out in the open, so if we are watching TV, they can be coloring or if I’m making dinner, they can be painting.

So I decided I wanted a small rectangle coffee table, that would fit without being in the way, and the kids could sit on the floor to work. I posted an ad on the local online garage sale, and guess who answered? My mom! lol… so I went across the road and picked up this table.

I hauled it over, and washed it up. The glass had been siliconed into the table, so I couldn’t take it out.

I just taped some newspaper on it, and then sprayed it black. Amazing what some black spray paint can do.

And then I set it up in the dining area, under the kids clipboards.

Eventually, I’d like to find some larger baskets to put underneath, but for now, this plastic tote is working. There is paper, markers, and crayons underneath. I’ve got some paint brushes and scissors and tape. The should be set to go now.

I’m not worried about how the table will end of looking. If I can’t wash it off, I can always haul it out and spray another layer of paint on.

Above the table I have the clipboards and picture frames. We had this in our old house as well. I bought some 12x12 frames and cheap longer clipboards – and guess what – spray painted them black!    Initially, I wanted to change out the scrapbook pages monthly, but I love these photos and pages, so they will stay up for longer!

I also wanted clipboards to store papers and such that the kids need or bring home from school. It keep the clutter off the fridge. Or on the floor in front of the fridge like usually happens.

David has his Wrestling pictures hung up.

RC needs to get crafty and show off some art work. (He does currently have spelling words on there!)

McKinley has a lion colored on the first day of school, and a turkey she colored after tracing her hand.

Around the corner, in the living room cabinet, we have more coloring pages, and paper and crayons. I’ve also got a cabinet in the craft room for more supplies.

McKinley’s Room–American Girl Inspired.

Gosh, I had hoped to get more posted in the last week.  I’m sorry about that.  I do have a lot coming up… the kids have started school and I’ve got a lot of projects going on right now.  I just finished one up, so I’ll post it Monday.

IMG_9372

McKinley is a huge American Girl fan.  (I may have had something to do with that!)  We call them Molly girls, as her first one was Molly (well, it was a knock off that we told her was Molly.)  So when it came to room design, we went with a Molly Girl look.

IMG_9374

We painted a light pink, Precious Pink and then painted a strip of Red Bomb along the top portion.  If you have every seen an American Girl box, it is similar to these two colors.  I took the box into the local Hardware Hank to match them up as best I could.

IMG_9375

I purchased the vinyl stars from Uppercase Living, and we placed them around the strip of red.  I also hung up the photo of McKinley and two of her dolls.  We have a few more shelves to put up in here, but mostly it’s all done.  And very well played in!

Enjoy your weekend!!

RC’s Bedroom

I am hoping to get all of the rooms shared here in the next couple week's.  The kids start school next week, so I can work on some of the other rooms that I've not gotten finished up while they are home.  But we got their bedrooms settled for now so that they can have that space when they come home from school.

Down the hall, RC’s room is the first one on the left.  All three of the kids’ rooms are the same size too. About 12x12'.
IMG_9362
We went with a light blue, called Charm Blue from Hardware Hank for the walls.  Most of the décor, RC already had.
IMG_9363
We had bought these beds for the boys a couple years ago, and they are very nice, with the shelves and drawers under the bed.
IMG_9364
We had this desk on loan from my aunt, and it fits is pretty well here.
IMG_9365
My friend found these crates when she was out shopping one day.  They are perfect for his room.  They are Royal Crown...aka RC Cola.  ;)
IMG_9367
I found this sign on etsy and had to have it for his room as well.
Hope you enjoyed RC’s room tour.  McKinley’s is coming up next.

Our Living Room

Hey – sorry for the absence.  I was originally thinking that I would wait until I had each room 100% like I wanted it before I revealed them on here.  HA!  It’s never going to be 100% done, and it’s also going to be a long time until I feel it’s even close.  Plus I have lots of ideas.
So, I decided to show rooms as they are and when I finish the projects and ideas I have, I’ll update them.  So here is our living room, as it is now.
Living ROom 4
One of the biggest things left to do is hang pictures.  We have some really nice prints we got for Christmas 7 years ago!!  They are still in the package, and have wrapping paper on them.  We just never got them framed, but we are now and they will hang up above the brown couch.  I am not sure what I want above the TV.  Ideas are appreciated.
Living room 3
When I planned the living room, I wanted built in shelves and cupboards in this little nook area.  I still want that, it’s just going to be one of the very last things.  However, we put our small living room table here and it looks nice.  I’ve added some of my decorations and I love how it turned out.
Living Room 2
The only new thing we picked up is the welcome to the ranch sign.  The rest are things we’ve had in various parts of the house.  The old-looking record player is a working one from Cabella’s.  The older yellow one is just for decoration.   We got the old window as a wedding gift, made by a friend of ours.
living room 5
Here is my jar basket  that I made HERE.  Just a few decorations for this corner.
living room 1
This is the other side of the room, facing the road.  I just picked up the curtains and rod on Tuesday.
Nothing else is new in the house.  We’ve acquired the furniture over the years, the green couch matches one my Grandpa has – he didn’t need the smaller one.  The other two came from a local furniture store.  The end tables, couch table and tv stand all came from Walmart.  I ordered them online and had to put them together and they are very good quality stuff.  I’m impressed.
Thanks for stopping – I’m hoping to have the master bedroom and bath ready for you shortly.

Inspiration

Happy Friday – I was surprised to wake up to find out it was Friday already.  What a crazy week!!  I thought I’d do a bit of house update before the long weekend.

IMG_8841

I am so happy with the way things are coming around.  This is RC’s room where the white trim looks awesome.

All of the kids’ rooms are 98% finished and we will be moving some things in over the weekend. I want to get the borrowed trailers cleaned out so we can get them back to their owners.

There really isn’t a lot left to do.  Mostly it’s some wiring, trim work and finish items.  And I’ll update some more next week.  I wanna show you my kitchen!!

Today  however, I thought I’d share some of the ideas I want to work into my house via Pinterest.  You can follow me HERE on Pinterest.

small band of glass tile

Because of the way the counter top is, I am going to be able to add some of the tile like this in the kids’ bathroom. I love this look.  Love the black, but I won’t have that in this room.  Just the tile.

Hooks for coffee cups. CHECK

I love the white shelves.  Since it’s hard for Greg to reach up to the upper cabinets, we only have a few of them, and then I’ll add shelves like this for displaying my Fiesta ware.  I also love the hooks for the cups.  I plan to make my coffee station, just under this so the cups are accessible.

When I planned the mud room, I didn’t plan a closet.  Does anyone’s kids EVER hang there coats on hangers?  It’s always a fight, so I planned cubbies.  At the very least they can put their coat on a hook, plus backpacks, and place for their shoes, they school needs, etc.  Right by the door and hidden from the public.  Well, almost.

I can’t wait to share these finished projects.

Flooring

Not much to update you on the terms of the house.  We were still waiting on the plumbers but they’ve been there and are working now!  WOO HOO…

We are also waiting on the kitchen cabinets, some more electrical work and then for some reason my craft room.  Surprised smile  I like to make sure they know I am annoyed that it’s the last room to be worked on.  Winking smile

Anyway, we have gotten the flooring in (except my craft room!)

IMG_8757

This is looking into the kitchen and dining area from the living room.  Of course, the floor is full of footprints, but it’s still so pretty!!

IMG_8763

This one is turned around looking into the living room.  We have this flooring throughout the whole house with the exception of the bathrooms.  It’s all laminate floating floors I picked out at our local furniture store.  (I will find out the name for sure!)  I did not put any carpet in for a cleaning reasons and mobility for Greg.

IMG_8393

I may  have posted this before, but this is the other flooring.  This is going in the three bathrooms and the mud room.  It’s linoleum and it looks like fancy smancy tile!!  It’s beautiful!!

I am excited to share all of the rooms as they each get done!!

Keep on Swimming, Keep on Swimming

Hey there…  I wish I had more to share with you right now.  We are at the awkward stage where we are half packed, half ready to move, yet we still have another week.

So I’ll just update where we are.

IMG_8360

We painted some more Friday and Saturday.  The utility closet is done so the utilities can be set up.  Then on to RC’s room.  We got the base of some blue down… I can’t wait to finish his room and share, but that is later on down the road.

IMG_8371

Then we got the Master bedroom and closets.  I used three gallons of paint on the walls, and ceiling and that still wasn’t enough, so one closet is not finished.  LOL..  And I haven’t painted the blue wall.

packing

Then we packed up more stuff Sunday and got to spend some down time as well.

What I hope happens this week:

  • Master bathroom finished
  • Kids bathroom finished
  • Floors put down in the bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Water, propane, power and more hooked up.
  • Telephone people out there. (I think I saw them going out this morning!!)
  • more painting, and packing.

Kind of a reach, but I think it can happen.  The plan on the table is move in day May 29th – and if the above happens this week, we can do it!!  Winking smile

Here is what else is going on this week:

  • Baseball starts tonight
  • Baseball continues every Monday and Wednesday night.
  • School is out Wednesday at noon.
  • McKinley is supposed to start a dance class for Jr. Miss
  • Stamp Club meets tomorrow night
  • Dentist appt. Thursday (this is an all day trip)

Instead…

I so should be working my tail off on packing and cleaning and painting and packing.
Instead, I got on etsy and went shopping.  You know that it kind of like antiquing from home.
mc pans
I scored these lil pans for only $14 plus shipping.  Still cheaper than I’ve seen in stores.  Mc loves to make mud pies and she’s already broke these in.
RC sign
I got this sign for RC.  I  loved it, thought it will be perfect for his new room.  Or somewhere sweet for us all to enjoy!
Instead, we also went to the park Sunday afternoon to play for awhile.
mc bridge
I like this cute picture of Mc in front of the old bridge.
Instead, I dug out some supplies and finally made a sign I’d been wanting to make.
sign
I saw something similar to this on Pinterest, and ordered the saying from Uppercase Living.  I finally found some old wood I liked and applied the letters.  They do not like the wood, so it was tough.  However, they are staying on there, so it’s going to be great.
In my mind, I have a spot for it in the new house.
